Read the letter carefully
Your refusal letter lists the reasons the officer was not satisfied. For visitor visas, they usually come back to the same few areas: whether you'll leave Canada at the end of your stay, your ties outside Canada, the purpose of your visit, and your finances.
For people living in the UAE, a "ties" reason often means the officer didn't see a clear picture of both your life in the UAE and your connection to your home country. A strong job in Dubai doesn't help much if the file doesn't show it.
Order your GCMS notes when the letter isn't clear
The letter shows which boxes were ticked. The officer's notes in IRCC's Global Case Management System (GCMS) often show what they were actually thinking: a document they doubted, an answer that didn't match, or something missing. If your refusal surprised you, the notes are usually worth ordering before you reapply. I explain them in GCMS notes explained.
Your options
- Reapply with a stronger application. This is the right choice for most visitor visa refusals. There is no mandatory waiting period, but you should only reapply once something has genuinely changed or you can now show what was missing.
- Challenge the decision in Federal Court. If the decision was unreasonable, judicial review is possible within strict deadlines. This is legal work: I'll refer you to an immigration lawyer if it's the better route.
- Wait and strengthen your profile. Sometimes the honest answer is that a few more months of savings, travel or residence history will make the difference.
What a stronger UAE reapplication usually includes
- A short, clear letter of explanation that addresses each refusal reason directly.
- An updated employer letter confirming your role, salary, approved leave and that your position continues.
- Bank statements that tell a consistent story, with any large deposits explained.
- A residence visa with plenty of validity left.
- Stronger home-country ties: property, family responsibilities, business or investments.
- A specific trip plan that matches your leave dates and budget.
- Full disclosure of the previous refusal. Every new application must declare it.
Each refusal stays on your record, and repeating the same application can make the next decision harder. If you've been refused more than once, get the GCMS notes and a professional review before you spend another fee.
Current processing times from the UAE
A visitor visa applied for from the UAE currently takes about 55 days, according to IRCC's latest published estimate (October 29, 2026).
Frequently asked questions
How long should I wait to reapply after a Canadian visa refusal?
There is no mandatory waiting period for a visitor visa. What matters is whether your new application answers the reasons for refusal. Reapplying quickly with the same documents usually leads to the same result.
Do I have to declare a previous refusal when I reapply?
Yes. You must declare every previous refusal, from Canada or any other country. Not declaring it can be treated as misrepresentation, which can lead to a five-year bar from applying.
Should I order GCMS notes after a refusal from the UAE?
If the refusal letter is generic or the refusal surprised you, usually yes. The notes often show the officer's specific concern, which tells you what the next application must fix.
Can I appeal a Canadian visitor visa refusal?
There is no appeal for a visitor visa refusal. The legal route is judicial review in the Federal Court of Canada, which has strict deadlines and requires a lawyer. For most people, a stronger new application is the better option.
